Senior Embedded Software Engineer

This role of Senior Embedded Software Engineer is an ideal opportunity for a highly credible person to join a mixed–discipline team of electronics, mechanical, systems, and software engineers to develop C/C++ embedded firmware for microprocessor–based electronic products. Based in Redditch, Worcestershire Arrowvale Electronics is a well–established privately–owned expert in the design and manufacture of monitoring and recording equipment for the rail industry.


  • Design, develop, code, test and debug software for embedded devices, from requirements to production and commercial deployment
  • Review code and design
  • Analyse and enhance efficiency, stability and scalability of system resources
  • Interface closely with hardware design and development

Required Skills & Experience:

You will have the following skills and experience:

  • At least 8 years of experience developing C/C++ code for products with embedded processors, mainly at bare–metal level.
  • Hands–on experience of trouble–shooting on embedded targets
  • Experience of producing technical & functional specifications and developing control software from concept through to testing and commissioning
  • A thorough understanding of typical embedded microprocessor hardware
  • Use of code control applications such as GIT
  • Familiar with the use of basic test equipment to aid debug (eg scopes)
  • Experience working with SPI & I2C hardware Interfaces.
  • Involvement in peer reviews of code
  • Experience of developing code within a milestone process

The following skills experience would be advantageous:

  • Working with ARM cores
  • Use of Keil compiler
  • Experience with hardware Interfaces such as RS232, RS485, USB, CANBUS, MODBUS & Ethernet
  • Data compression, encryption and transmission code experience
  • Writing code to IPC or EN standards
  • Developing products for safety–critical industries such as rail, automotive or aerospace.
  • Creation of test harnesses and automated test suites
